Do Something for Cornwall Challenge

Grand Bard launches Gorsedh Kernow’s ‘Do Something for Cornwall’ Challenge.

GrandBardStPiran“I am constantly amazed at how much my fellow Bards of Gorsedh Kernow do for Cornwall” said Grand Bard Maureen Fuller, “and how hard they work to promote Cornwall and support our distinctive culture, especially in the fields of the Cornish language, history and archaeology, literature, music, song, dance, art and of course, sport.”

Launching the “Gorsedh Kernow ‘Do Something for Cornwall ‘ Challenge” from the steps of Truro Cathedral after the annual St Piran’s Day Procession the Grand Bard sent out her heartfelt message not only to Cornish people but to all those who love Cornwall to make the most of our recently bestowed minority status and help put Cornwall on the map.

The Gorsedh Kernow Challenge is aimed at anyone whether they are at school, college or university, at work, retired, a member of a club or organisation or an individual.

“We want everyone to be part of this important work and that is why we invite one and all to take up the Gorsedh Kernow ‘Do Something for Cornwall’ Challenge,” said Mrs Fuller.

In addition to the iconic ceremonies of Gorsedh Kernow held in April, June and September, the year long project of events and happenings will also include exciting keynote events at venues such as the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum and the Eden Project.

There is no need to fill out entry forms, participants are encouraged to just take part in any way they can and to tell Gorsedh Kernow about it through the website and Facebook page, or by contacting Bards in their local area by emailing enquiries@gorsedhkernow.org.uk

“There are plenty of ideas on our Facebook page to get you thinking, on the Gorsedh Kernow website which is being relaunched especially for the occasion or you can come up with your own suggestions,” said Mrs Fuller, “and if we are using our skills and knowledge for the benefit of our beloved Cornwall we can be proud of our efforts to bring our precious culture to the notice of others. In that way we really will be ‘Doing Something for Cornwall’ !”
