News for Bards / Nowodhow rag BerdhPlease see also the main news page and the press and news releases section.
The following information is taken from that newsletter: Gwarnyans ha KKB Gorsedh Kernow Tewyn Blystri / Gorsedh Kernow Proclamation and AGM Newquay Car Parking – please do not park in the Church car park which will be for permit holders with limited spaces for disabled bards only. However, Manor Road car park TR7 1PD is right opposite the Church and Church Hall (charges up to 1 hour - £1.50, 1 to 2 hours - £3.10, 2 to 3 hours - £4.70, 3 to 4 hours - £6.30) and the Mount Wise car park TR7 2AZ is off the road behind and parallel to St Michael’s Road (charges up to 1 hour - £1.20, 1 to 2 hours - £2.90, 2 to 3 hours - £4.40, 3 to 4 hours - £5.90). It is possible to walk down some steps from the north end of Mount Wise car park which then gives access to St Michaels Road. Turn right at the bottom of the steps and the Church hall is about 200 yards along the road. There may also be some street parking nearby. If any bards with disabilities wish to attend the Proclamation ceremony there may be some street parking in Trebarwith Crescent, adjacent to the Killacourt (please display blue badge), but there is no car parking on the Killacourt itself. Otherwise the advice is to park in the north east corner of Manor Road car park, walk down the access path in front of the library and cross the road which then brings you to the top of Trebarwith Crescent. In your own interest, please do not attempt to park in taxi-designated parking bays at the top of the Killacourt. For the AGM you will need to use the above car parks, both of which require blue badge holders to pay the normal parking fee unless the vehicle is registered under Cornwall Council's exemption scheme or the vehicle is especially adapted for the benefit of the driver. Otherwise please arrange for someone to drop you off nearby so they can then park and collect you later. If wet, the whole Proclamation ceremony will take place in St Michael’s Church. Please note that this is a different venue to the one where the Gorsedh Kernow bardic ceremony will be held in September. The Gorsedh Kernow AGM will take place at 1.00pm on the same day in St Michael’s Church Hall, St Michael’s Road, Newquay, TR7 1RA after the Proclamation ceremony. You are welcome to bring your own lunch although there are plenty of shops and cafes in the town where you can buy food. Tea and coffee will be available at the Church Hall and there are toilets there as well. Parking as detailed above. The AGM is expected to last no longer than an hour and a half and it would be really good if as many bards as possible could attend please as decisions are usually made by those who turn up! Please bring your own copy of notes from the 2017 AGM and the AGM agenda for 2018 with you, they are enclosed with this newsletter. The AGM will be followed by a brand new short film, almost hot from the film makers hands, about Henry Jenner, Gwas Myghal. Apparently Gorsedh Kernow features heavily in the film, which lasts about 12 minutes and advice was sought from several fellow bards about the content. It is being presented by Cornish Language Officer and fellow bard Mark Trevethan, Marghvran, who will be happy to take questions after. Your presence at both the Proclamation ceremony and the AGM after will be most appreciated as a demonstration of your continuing strong support for our precious Cornish culture, the importance of our Minority Status and Gorsedh Kernow’s unwavering recognition of Cornwall as a Celtic nation.
