Hope and Dispair in an Australian Farming Settlement.
£20.00
Bard Mary Royle, herself born in Victoria in 1927, and writing under the pseudonym of Mary West, has written this fascinating book based on the letters written home to Cornwall by her mother to her grandmother during the period 1925 – 1929 when her parents had moved to Australia under the Closer Settlement Board Scheme. It is from the uniquely contemporary account, untouched by reminiscences and fortified by official documents that the Mount Violet story is told. Not only the Mount Violet settlement, but of hundreds of similar farm settlements throughout Victoria in the 1920s affecting many thousands of Australian and British families.
The cost of the book is £25 including post and packaging.
