Newquay St Piran Festival Activities 2023

ALL WELCOME

The Newquay St Piran’s Festival Co-ordinating Group are delighted to confirm that, with support from Newquay BID, all the events offered [except where specifically mentioned] are “FREE ENTRY with a RETIRING COLLECTION” with all money raised during the Festival being used to celebrate our Cornish identity, initially by funding the Newquay St Piran’s Festival 2024

Friday 10th February

6.30pm, Great Western Hotel

Local schools celebrate Cornwall’s culture and heritage in song and verse. Featuring The Bishops’ Academy, St Columb Major Academy, St Columb Minor Academy and St Mawgan-in-Pydar Academy, supported by Oll an Gwella

Thursday March 2nd

7.30pm, The Stable (Fistral Beach)

Ceilidh arranged by Urban Kelt and Sponsored by The Wave Project

Friday March 3rd

2.30-3.30pm, Newquay Library, a Community Cream Tea, with entertainment from Tir ha Tavas + exhibition and video presentations in the library.

4.00pm Newquay’s St Piran’s Parade leaves the Victoria Hotel, Newquay to walk through the town to the Central Inn with pipes and drum and other musicians and St Piran’s banners.  Accompanied by schoolchildren and families and other community groups (all welcome).  Bring your St Piran Flags!

4.30pm Schools Ceilidh at The Central Inn with singing and dancing supported by Oll an Gwella and former Grand Bard, Liz Carne.  Special guest, Harry Glasson.

Saturday March 4th

10.00am-4.00pm Newquay Heritage Museum:  video presentations and exhibitions.

11.00am-Lighthouse Cinema:  exhibition of local schoolchildren’s work + special showing of Mark Jenkin’s new film, “Enys Men” (special admission price available for showing)

12.00noon-4.00pm Entertainment at The Piazza and The Central Inn.

2.00pm, ‘UrbanKelt – Gwerthji Koffi Keltek’ Cornish Language ‘taster class’

7.00-10.00pm St Piran’s Eve Concert at The Great Western Hotel featuring Sam Casey, Silvington and Caracana, supported by Newquay Rowing Club Singers.  Compere; Clive ‘Spider’ Stephens

8.00pm performing at the Griffin Inn – The Stowes

8.30pm Music Evening at UrbanKelt

Sunday March 5th

10.30am Televised bi-lingual “St Piran’s Day Service”, St Michael’s Church, to be streamed to the diaspora at 2.00pm.

3.00pm performing at the Griffin Inn – Motown Pirates

7.00-9.00pm performing at The Central Inn – The Newquay Rowing Club Singers and The Stowes

7.45-9.00pm performing at The Griffin Inn – Oll an Gwella
