Facilities in Launceston, and notes about the ceremony

PUBLIC REFRESHMENTS: There are a number of cafés in the town, as well as facilities within the Castle Green itself.

SEATING: The chairs forming the bardic circle are for Bards and Dignitaries only. Visitors may view the ceremony from the outside of the circle of Bardic chairs, and are asked not to intrude into the Bardic circle. Please bring your own chair to the ceremony if required.

CEREMONY BOOKLET: By tradition the ceremony is conducted mainly in Cornish but a booklet with proceedings in English and Cornish is available at a small cost.

EXHIBITION: During Saturday, in St Mary Magdalene Church Hall, there will be a display of some of the winning entries in the Gorseth's annual competitions. Do make a point of touring this unique exhibition.

STALLS: A number of official stalls at the site will be selling Cornish language books and Cornish memorabilia. Further details from D. Lamerton (Starn Gerdhes), 01326 565 978.

PHOTOGRAPHY: No photographers will be allowed in the circle during the ceremony.

ROBING: This will take place at the Central Methodist Church Hall, the location of which is shown on the map, from noon onwards.

DRESS AND DECORUM: Please ensure that your robe is immaculately ironed and groomed. No jeans, shorts or trainers are to be worn under robes. As it is important that the ceremony is orderly and impressive, please retain ranks throughout processions.

FORMAL TEA: This is for bards and specially invited guests only, and will be in the Town Hall. See map. Please be seated by 1715 for Grace in Cornish. There are facilities elsewhere in Launceston for those who are not permitted to attend the formal tea.

Bards and Initiates MUST book tea tickets in advance, as early as possible, and NOT ONE DAY LATER THAN SATURDAY 28TH JUNE. It is imperative that this date be adhered to, so that efficient catering arrangements can be made. Tea is being provided by the Women's Institute at a cost of £3.00. You will find the booking form HERE.

PUBLIC CONCERT: Tickets via the < a href="lansbook.htm" target="window">booking form or at the door, price £3.50. Commencing at 1830 in the Methodist Chapel. The MC will be Wilfred Cox (Gwas Kernow).

WET WEATHER: In the event of wet weather, the Gorseth will take place in St Mary Magdalene Church, in Church Street. (See map.)

CELTIC DELEGATES: The Gorseth welcomes the Breton and the Welsh representatives. We hope they have a memorable time.

The Gorseth Council is very grateful to Launceston Town Council, Launceston Women's Institute, the Church Wardens of St Mary Magdalene Church (Central Methodist Church, Launceston), the Launceston Old Cornwall Society, English Heritage and local organisations for their welcome and for the help given, without which our ceremony could not be staged.
