Organisers of an international male voice choral festival are set to welcome choirs from across the world to Cornwall soon for an annual song-fest that welcomes all ages and nationalities and promises to be the biggest event of its kind in Europe with 70 choirs in all taking part. “There will be 45 choirs, of which 9 are from overseas, descending on Cornwall very soon to join our Cornish choirs and we’re ready to welcome them,” said David Peters, Broder yn Can, bard of Gorsedh Kernow and Vice President of the Cornwall International Male Voice Choral Festival.

Several bards of Gorsedh Kernow will be making a contribution to the Festival. “I counted at least 16 bards who are involved in some way and many of them are musical directors of Cornish choirs,” said Mr Peters, “so they really are doing something for Cornwall.” Angela Renshaw, Ledyores Kan meaning Leader of Song, who was made a bard in 2013 at Glasney in Penryn, recently organised a special event for some of the younger members.

“As a prelude to the Festival Angela organised ‘Boys and Girls on a Bus’, an exciting event which brought two groups of young singers into Truro, one from Penzance and one from North Cornwall,” said Mr Peters, “stopping off to sing at various towns on the way. The young choirs then joined forces to sing on the Piazza outside the Hall for Cornwall.” “It’s amazing to imagine all those wonderful voices ringing around our beloved Cornwall,” said Grand Bard Maureen Fuller, offering her very best wishes for a successful Festival, “and on behalf of the Bards of Gorsedh Kernow I extend a very warm welcome to visiting choirs from all over the world.
